Brunei, Army stay clean

Kensei -Brunei and Army struggled before winning and staying on top of the men's pen division in the Cebuana Lhuillier Summer Grandslam National Softball Open at the Clark Freeport in Pampanga.

Manuel Bacarasis scored the winning run following a fielding error by Jonas Ponce as Kensei-Brunei, powered by nine Filipinos, scored a close 3-2 win over Zamboanga to stay undefeated in three games.

Like Kensei, Army clinched its third straight win to gain a share of the lead, beating Zamboanga City, 4-2, and making it a bad day for the Zamboanga-based squads.

Air Force nipped Navy, 4-3, for its second win in three starts while Rizal Technological University barged into the win column, scoring a 9-2 win over West Java, which earlier lost to Zamboanga 3-6.

The loss sent the Indonesian team to the bottom with its 4th straight loss in the tournament hosted by the Clark Development Corporation and sponsored by Cebuana Pera Padala, Phiten, Cebuana Lhuillier Bank, Just Jewels, Cebuana Insurance Solutions, Le Soleil de Boracay, TJ Hotdogs, Purefoods Chicken Nuggets, Smokey's Sausages, Hungry Juan and DOT Region 3.

In the men's Club division, Laguna and Marikina are on top with 3-0 and 2-0 win-loss slates, respectively.

Laguna fashioned out back-to-back wins, beating Angeles 9-2 and the Ateneo Coaches 6-1 while Marikina downed Bulacan 4-2.

The women's side had Rizal likewise posting two wins, beating Antipolo 8-4 and Polytechnic University of the Philippines 5-3 to take the solo lead at 3-0, followed by the University of Sto. Tomas which also earned two wins, shutting down Tarlac 6-0 and NCR 2-0 for a 3-1 slate.
