Clark Field, Pampanga—University of the East posted a twin kill yesterday, beating Adamson Alumni and Papua Province, Indonesia to grab the lead in the women’s division of the Cebuana Lhuillier National softball open championships here.

The UE batters came up with a four-run binge in the fourth inning, aided by a grievous catching error by Sarah Jane Agravante after a hit by Genejoy Parilla, as they beat Adamson, 6-4 early in the day.

Hot as the summer day, the UE Warriors returned to the field to rout a hapless Papua squad in an abbreviated game, 11-0, to pace the division with a clean 4-0 win-loss record.

Agravante’s error paved the way for Joy Lasquite, Jelly Mecabalo and Marlyn Francisco to score in that decisive fourth inning as UE rallied from a two-run deficit and dealt Adamson its first loss after two straight wins.

The victory assured UE of a place in the finals of the tournament also sponsored by Cebuana Pera Padala, Just Jewels, Cebuana Lhuillier Bank, Phiten, Cebuana Lhuillier Insurance Solutions, Le Soleil de Boracay, TJ Hotdogs, Purefoods Chicken Nuggets, Smokey's Sausages, Hungry Juan, DOT Region 3, and hosted by Clark Development Corporation.

In second place is UAAP champion Adamson U, which beat Rizal Technological University, 7 - 3 , in a big win that saw it score six runs in the final inning for its third win against a single loss.

In the women 's club division, Rizal Province took the solo lead at 5 - 0, following its victories over Central Luzon State University, 7 - 4, and Tarlac, 7-0 with University of Sto. Tomas and Polytechinc University of the Philippines breathing down Rizal's necks with similar 3 - 1 win-loss records.

UST beat NCR 2 - 0 for its third win while PUP edged out University of the Cordilleras-Baguio 4 - 2. NCR and CLSU are tied for the fourth spot with 2 - 2 records.

Upsets marred the men's Open division erstwhile unbeaten Kensei of Brunei and Army fell on a hot, sunny afternoon.

Air Force scored two runs right in the first inning and another in the third inning for an early 3 - 0 lead over Kensei which could only produce a lone run in the fourth inning for the entire game.

With that 3 - 1 victory over Kensei and an earlier victory over RTU 7 - 2, the Airmen found themselves on top of the heap together with Zamboanga and the Army even as the Armymen were stunned by RTU , 1-8.
