Adamson overpower SLU girls

Rizza Bernardino and her two relievers went perfect as multi-titled Adamson pounded St. Louis University of Baguio City, 29-0, in three innings yesterday for an overpowering start in the Cebuana Lhuillier National Inter-collegiate women’s softball league at the Rosario Sports Complex in Pasig City.

The MVP in the last Big League World Series won by Team Manila, Bernardino retired the first three batters she faced, a feat which Julie Marie Muyco and Baby Jane Raro duplicated in their turn at the mound as Adamson won without trouble against a helpless SLU squad.

Lady Falcons coach Ana Santiago fielded in her second stringers, and all connected against greenhorn Elizabeth Taynec, a 16-year-old engineering freshman whom they bombed with 16 hits.

Shortstop Queenie Sabobo went two-for-two and drove in one run while rookie pinchhitters Lorna Adorable and Andrea Mae Gonzales also delivered, driving in three runs and two runs, respectively.

Luzviminda Embudo and Elvie Entrina, two of five members of the Philippine Blu Girls in coach Santiago’s roster, singled and doubled in a combined five runs between them to the delight of crowd that witnessed the inaugural rites of this 12-team, one-round series sponsored by Cebuana Lhuillier, Cebuana Pera Padala, Le Soleil de Boracay, Cebuana Lhuillier Insurance Solutions, Just Jewels and Phiten.

University of the East scored three runs in the first inning in a fiery start and posted a 3-1 victory over University of Santo Tomas.

University of the Philippines, a team made up mostly of former Miriam College sluggers, made mincemeat of Bulacan State University in another abbreviated four-inning contest, 11-l. (Eddie Alinea)
