Manila, Philippines – A comprehensive and sustainable program will be instituted by softball president John Henri Lhuillier next year through nationwide grassroots programs to strengthen the foundation of softball and keep its lofty billing as certified achiever.

“My vision is to get the cream of the crop for future international competition. Some of my players are not getting any younger,” said Lhuillier during the celebration of the 25th year of Cebuana Lhuillier in the pawnshop industry.

Lhuillier said ASAPHIL has received numerous invitations for the Blu Boys and the Blu Girls to compete in their tournaments. These include the Canada Cup Women softball, 19-under World Women softball, Asian Men Softball, World Men Softball in Auckland, New Zealand, and the ASEAN Men Softball.

“These are some of the overseas tournaments lined up for the Blu Boys and Blu Girls,” said Lhuillier in the presence of secretary general Danny Francisco and team operation manager Jun Veloso. The sportsman-businessman from Cebu best softball players in the world, with the Blu Boys and the Blu Girls having gained the respect and adulation of their foreign peers.

“Softball is the only team event that placed runner-up in international competition this year. The Blu Boys placed runnerup to Japan in the Asian tournament. Imagine, the Blu Boys faced Japan in the finals despite the great odds. It was an achievement and I’m proud of that,” he said.

Lhuillier took over the helm from former Manila Rep. and ex-Philippine Sports Commission chairman Harry Angping in 2006.

He said Pasig Mayor Bobby Eusebio promised to renovate and improve the Rosario softball to enable the country to host another international softball competition.

“The good mayor told me that he will refurbish the field to restore the eight-year diamond to host another international competition where our men and women players will have the opportunity to show their skills,” said Lhuillier. (Clyde Mariano)
