Rizal, Nueva Ecija teams lead girls’ inter-secondary softball

TEAMS from Rizal and Nueva Ecija lead the way at the halfway mark of the National Inter-Secondary Girls Softball Championships presented by Cebuana Lhuillier in Marikina.

Rizal Province, represented by Luzon girls’ softball champion San Mateo National High School, sports a perfect 4-0 win-loss slate highlighted by abbreviated victories over Pasig, Makati and De La Salle-Zobel and a 9-6 win over Manila.

Nueva Ecija is right behind with a 3-0 record in the week-long, 10-team tournament supported by Pera Padala, Cebuana Lhuillier Bank, Phiten, Cebuana Lhuillier Insurance Solutions, and Le Soleil de Boracay and organized by the Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (Asaphil) as a component of its grassroots program.

Nueva Ecija beat Woodrose of Muntinlupa and Pasig in close games while dominating Marikina for its ublemished record.

Woodrose rebounded from its opening day 2-5 loss to Nueva Ecija by beating Sta. Maria, Bulacan, Makati, De La Salle-Zobel, and San Miguel, Bulacan, in succession for a 4-1 record.

Trailing the pacesetters were Manila (2-1), Marikina (2-2), and San Miguel (1-2). De La Salle Zobel, now handled by Blu Girls coach Ana Santiago, totes a 2-3 record. Pasig at 1-4 while mired at the bottom of the standing are Sta. Maria, Bulacan, 0-3, and Makati, 0-4.

The top four teams will advance to the semifinals with the finals scheduled on Saturday.
