Rizal, NE batters dazzle

RIZAL and Nueva Ecija teams stayed unbeaten halfway through the 10-team National Intersecondary girls softball championships presented by Cebuana Lhuillier in Sto. Nino, Marikina.

Rizal Privince, represented by Luzon girl’s champion San Mateo National High School and Nueva Ecija remained unbeaten with the Rizal nine scoring abbreviated victories over Pasig, Makati, and De La Salle-Zobel and a close 9-6 win over Manila for a perfect 4-0 win-loss record.

Nueva Ecija is a win behind with a 3-0 record in the week long tournament also sponsored by Pera Padala, Cebuana Lhuillier Bank, Phiten, Cebuana Lhuillier Insurance Solutions and Le Soleil de Boracay and organized by the Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (ASAPHIL) as a component of its grassroots program for the sport.

Nueva Ecija beat Woodrose of Muntinlupa and Pasig in close games while completely dominating Marikina for its unblemished card.

Woodrose, meanwhile, rebounded from its opening day 2-5 loss to Nueva Ecija and rattled off four straight wins, defeating Sta. Maria, Bulacan, Makati, De La Salle Zobel and San Miguel, Bulacan.

The top three teams were followed by Manila, 2-1, Marikina 2-2, and San Miguel 1-2. De La Salle-Zobel, now handled by Blu Girls coach Ana Santiago, totes a 2-3 record, followed by Pasig with a 1-4 slate, Sta. Maria, Bulacan, 0-3 and Makati, 0-4.
