The province of Rizal, represented by the San Mateo National High School, completed its domination of the recent Cebuana Lhuillier-presented National Inter-secondary Girls’ Softball Championships in scintillating fashion, posting an abbreviated 4-inning 10-0 victory over Manila.

Rizal, which swept the nine-game elimination round and emerged the no. 1 team, showed its intention early in the game by exploding for four runs right in the first inning, with a hit by Cristy Roa sending the duo of Leialyn Guevarra and Chacha Quintos scooting to the home plate for their team’s first two runs. This was followed by two more runs for an early 4-0 lead from which Manila never recovered.

It was a similar story in the second inning as Rizal scored four more runs, while holding Manila scoreless behind the pitching of best pitcher awardee Cochise Cherokee Diolata.

Both teams failed to score in the third inning, but Rizal, powered by a homer by most valuable player Delyrose Covarrubias in the fourth inning that sent her and teammate CJ Roa to home plate, wrapped up the game for the title.

ASAPHIL Executive Vice-President Atty. Rolando Rivera, together with Operations Manager Jun Veloso, presented the trophies to the Top 3 teams.

Woodrose, which lost to Manila, 4-11 in the semifinals, finished third in the tournament also sponsored by Pera Padala, Cebuana Lhuillier Bank, Phiten, Cebuana Lhuillier Insurance Solutions, and Le Soleil de Boracay.
