Adamson fights UP in softball semis

TOP-SEEDED and defending champion Adamson University, which swept the one-round elimination in the women’s open division of the Summer Grandslam National Open Softball Championship, meets second-ranked University of the Philippines for the first finals slot.

Third-ranked team Rizal Technological University, meanwhile, plays fourth-ranked Chikara-Brunei in a rematch for a chance to advance to the finals as the winner plays the loser of the Adamson-UP game.

UP-Diliman, RTU and Chikara ended the elimination round with similar 2-2 records, after the State University lady batters beat National University, 5-2, while RTU edged out Chikara, 4-1, as RTU pitcher Melanie Macatangay played without relief and more than held her own against the Chikara batters, mostly former Blu Girls.

In the men’s open division, Philippine Air Force-1 followed its hard earned 6-5 win over leading Lakidende from Indonesia, with a 5-2 victory over Cebu to solidify its hold on second place behind the Indonesian team.

PAF-1 is a game behind Lakidende with its 5-2 record against the visiting team’s 5-1 slate in the tournament organized by ASAPHIL and backed by Cebuana Lhuillier, Pera Padala, Phiten, Cebuana Lhuillier Insurance Solutions, Just Jewels, Le Soleil de Boracay, and Clark Development Corporation.
