Adamson Lady Nine Off To Big Softball Debut

Philippine Daily Inquirer | October 23, 2013

Defending champion Adamson University exploded for seven runs right in the first inning to overwhelm Bulacan State University, 8-1, Monday and send a strong message to the other teams in the 2013 Cebuana Lhuillier Inter-Collegiate Softball Championship in Marikina.

Providing the drama on opening day was Rizal Technological University’s nail-biting 6-5 escape versus University of Sto. Tomas.

RTU, last year’s SCUAA runner-up, broke a 5-5 deadlock with the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Despite her wards’ impressive win, Adamson and Blu Girls coach Anna Santiago, who is gunning for her third straight national inter-collegiate crown, said they need “more focus” to go all the way against the strong field.

In other games, SCUAA champion Polytechnic University of the Philippines nipped University of the Philippines, 2-1; PRISAA runner-up Central Philippine University shocked UAAP runner-up National University, 3-1; and Ateneo posted an abbreviated three-inning win over Philippine Normal University, 17-1. NU later won over Central Luzon State U, 10-2, to level its record to 1-1.
