Manila Stardard Today - Adamson softbelles seize women’s lead

Defending champion Adamson University has already scored a total of 37 runs, while allowing only a run against its first three opponents to lead the 2013 Cebuana Lhuillier Women’s National Inter-collegiate Softball Championships.

The reigning UAAP champions exploded with seven runs in the first inning of its initial game against Bulacan State University en route to an 8-1 victory in last Monday’s opening held in Marikina, then blanked Ateneo, 4-0, yesterday morning before pulling off an abbreviated 25-0 massacre of Philippine Normal University to lead Group A with 3 straight wins.

“Focus lang dapat, nandito ‘yung mga UAAP at SCUAA top teams,” said ADU coach Anna Santiago, long-time coach of the Blu Girls.

SCUAA champion Polytechnic University of the Philippines is in solo second with a 2-0 record following its close 2-1 victory over University of the Philippines, and a 6-1 win over Bulacan State University.

Ateneo evened its score with a 17-0 plastering of PNU to take third.

UP, PNU, and BULSU all remained winless in Group A.

PRISAA titlist Central Philippine University from Iloilo matched Adamson with 3 wins, beating National University, 3-1, demolished Central Luzon State University, 8-2, and edged out Rizal Technological University, 5- 2, to lead Group B.

University of the East posted an 8-0 win over CLSU and is in second place, while NU is at 2-1 with its twin victories over CLSU, 10-2, and over University of Santo Tomas, 6-5.

“We are happy that all the major women’s softball leagues are represented in this year’s national inter-collegiate,” said ASAPHIL President Jean Henri Lhuillier, who is sending the Blu Girls to the Asian Women’s Softball Championship in Taipei late next month.
