Defending champion Adamson University got off to a rousing start in the 2013 Cebuana Lhuillier Women’s National Inter-Collegiate Softball Championships, routing Bulacan State Univeristy, 8-1, over the weekend in Marikina.

Despite the impressive victory, Adamson coach Anna Santiago, who is gunning for her third straight inter-collegiate crown, refused to do any prediction.

“Maraming malakas na teams. Mahirap magsalita. We need to focus if we want to win again,’ said Santiago

Rizal Technological University scored in the sixth inning to beat University of Sto. Tomas, 6-5, in the day’s closest, most interesting game.

‘We are happy with the turn-out of teams as we have the best teams in the UAAP, SCUAA, and PRISAA competing,” said ASAPHIL president Jean Henri Lhuillier whose Blu Girls will be joining the Asian Women’s championship in Taipei next month.

Other opening day results saw reigning SCUAA champion Polytechnic University of the Philippines edging out University of the Philippines, 2-1, PRISAA runner-up Central Philippine University shocking UAAP runner-up National University, 3-1, Ateneo de Manila posting an abbreviated three inning win over hapless Philippine Normal University 17-1.

NU evened its record by winning its second game over Central Luzon State University, 10-2.

The cast was reduced to 12 by the last minute withdrawal of De La Salle University.
