Canada beats Philippines, 3-1

Canada beat Philippines 3-1 in seven innings on Wednesday behind Carey-Leigh Thomas, who went 3-3 at the plate.

She doubled in the first inning and singled in the third and fifth innings.

Philippines' lineup had no answer for Karissa Hovinga. Philippines managed just one hit off of Hovinga, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two during her four innings of work.

Francesca Foti ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. She lasted just six innings, walked four, struck out one, and allowed three runs.

Canada stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the first, scoring one run on an RBI double by Thomas.

After posting one run in the third, Canada again scored one in the sixth. In the third, Canada scored on an RBI single by Thomas, plating Jennifer Yee.

Francesca Altomonte doubled the lead in the next inning with a run-producing double to left.

The fifth inning saw Philippines score its only run on the day on a passed ball.
