Japan jumps on Philippines early and coasts to 10-1 win


Japan refused to relinquish the lead after grabbing it early against Philippines, recording a 10-1 victory on Thursday.

With six runs in the first three innings, Japan left no doubt about the eventual outcome.

An RBI double by Yuka Ichiguchi and an RBI single by Eri Yamada during the first inning and an RBI single by Yu Yamamoto and a three-run home run by Yamada in the second inning fueled Japan's offense early.

Ichiguchi had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits.

Gabrielle Rodas had two extra-base hits for Philippines. She tripled in the first inning and doubled in the third inning.

Nozomi Ozaki got it done on the rubber on the way to a win. She allowed one run over three innings. Nozomi Ozaki struck out two, walked none and gave up four hits.

Francesca Foti lasted two innings in the circle for Philippines before being taken out. Francesca Foti allowed six hits and six runs.

Japan was sparked by Ichiguchi and Yamamoto, who teamed up for seven hits and eight RBIs.
