Lhuillier backs Blu Girls Tokyo Games campaign

MANILA, Philippines – Newly re-elected Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (ASAPHIL) president Jean Henri Lhuillier has bared plans and goals for softball in the next four years, putting emphasis on the Philippine Blu Girls’ quest to make it to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

With softball a medal sport in the Tokyo Games, Lhuillier has challenged the players and coaching staff to give their best in the upcoming World Cup and World Championships so they can gauge where the team stands so far and ASAPHIL will map out a strategic training plan from there.

“I have agreed to stay as president of ASAPHIL for the next four years with the condition that everyone from players to coaches and even my fellow board of directors will give their best in making Philippine softball succeed,” he said.

Lhuillier added that there’s no better way to measure the team’s strength than having the Blu Girls make impact in various international competitions.

The Blu Girls will embark on back-to-back top-level competitions, starting with the World Cup on July 5-10 in Oklahoma City and the World Championships on July 15-24 in Surrey, Canada.

“The 2020 Olympics will be the ultimate goal and I’m just not talking about participating but being competitive against the world’s best,” said Lhuillier.
