Blu Girls start Tokyo Games buildup

The Philippine Blu Girls start their buildup for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as they compete against the best in the world in the World Cup slated July 5-10 in Oklahoma City, USA and the World Women’s Softball Championships on July 15-24 in Surrey, Canada.

“This is a perfect start for our four-year plan for our Philippine Blu Girls to compete and contend in 2020 Tokyo Olympics,” said newly re-elected Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines president Jean Henri Lhuillier.

He added that the upcoming tournaments will gauge the Blu Girls’ progress and what improvements are needed to reach top form in the next four years. “There’s no other way to become one of the world’s best but to compete against them. I’m confident our girls will hold their own against the best. I’ve always believed that softball is a sport that we can excel in in the international arena so I’m going all out with my support to the team and the sport,” said Lhuillier.

The Phl Blu Girls will compete against two teams from the USA, world No. 1 Japan, China, Mexico, Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Puerto Rico and Venezuela in the World Cup.

Meanwhile, aside from the Philippines, other teams vying in the Women’s World Softball Championships are Italy, Puerto Rico, Austria, Venezuela, Czech Republic, Peru, India, Chinese Taipei, Mexico, USA, Switzerland, Ireland, Cuba, China, the Netherlands, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, France, Serbia, Uganda, Greece, Israel, Guatemala, Pakistan, Great Britain, Ecuador and Kenya.
