Tough early assignment for Philippine Blu Girls as they face US in World Cup of Softball XI in Oklahoma

Analie Benjamen and the Blu Girls are seeing action in two world events, going to Surrey after the Oklahoma tourney.

THE Philippine Blu Girls begin their campaign in the World Cup of Softball XI against the US on Wednesday in Oklahoma City.

The Filipinas take on China on Thursday and Puetro Rico on Thursday.

The Blu Girls will have Fil-Ams Gabrielle Maurice, Dani Gilmore, Chelsea Suitos, Sierra Lange and Garie Blando and Philippine-based Riflayca Basa, Analie Benjamen, Angeli Ursabia, Floriabele Pabiana, Mary Kuisse Garde, Cristy Joy Roa, Dione Macasu, Rizza Bernardino, Kriska Piad, Mary Ann Antolihao, Franchesca Altamonte, Arianne Vallestero, Celestine Palma, Roxzell Niloban and Lorna Adorable.

“I am very confident that our girls will give other teams a run for their money in this tournament. I have been challenging them not just to be competitive but to win games here,” said Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines president Jean Henri Lhuillier.

“This is just the first step towards our goal of making the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Our girls need as much international exposure as they can get to use to the high standards of competition. Our goal is not just to make the 2020 Olympics but to contend for a medal when that time comes,” said Lhuillier.

The team will next see action in the World Women’s Softball Championships set July 15 to 24 in Surrey British Columbia where the US, Canada, France, Italy, Puerto Rico, Czech Republic, India, Chinese Taipei and Mexico are also seeing action.
