Cebuana Lhuillier-backed Blu Girls Finish Strong, Overwhelm Peru in Dominant 13-0 World Cup Finale
The Cebuana Lhuillier-backed Blu Girls delivered a resounding statement to close their WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Group Stage campaign, overwhelming host nation Peru, 13-0, in just four innings to secure a fifth-place finish in Lima. One day after defeating the hosts 8-0 in their final opening-round assignment, the Blu Girls returned with an even more explosive performance, showcasing the offensive firepower and resilience that defined their tournament run.
The Philippines put the game out of reach almost immediately, sending 17 batters to the plate in a remarkable first inning.
The Blu Girls pounded out 10 hits and scored all 13 of their runs in one relentless offensive surge, leaving Peru with no opportunity to recover. Charlotte Sales spearheaded the attack, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBIs, including her second consecutive home run of the tournament, as the Philippines finished with 11 hits in another commanding display at the plate.
The Blu Girls were equally dominant on defense. Royevel Palma earned her first victory of the tournament after tossing a complete four-inning effort, limiting Peru to just two hits and one walk while striking out two. Combined with the team’s disciplined defense, the Philippines completed its second straight shutout over the hosts, capping off the tournament with back-to-back victories and a decisive finish against the world No. 18 squad.
